The Hallmarks of Zen
The Hallmarks of Zen
A Zen state is our true original nature which is common to all human-beings regardless of race, culture, gender or religion. In fact, good health and happiness are our birthright and our natural state. It is unnatural to be depressed and unhealthy. Embracing Zen is returning to our original and true nature. The Japanese word Zen is a pronunciation of the Chinese character 'Ch'an'. Ch'an is itself a Chinese rendering of the Sanskrit 'Dhyana' meaning meditative absorption or meditative equipoise. In the Korean Buddhist tradition it is pronounced as 'Seon'. Zen has come to signify not only the teaching and practice of this art but also the state of mind to be attained by engaging in that practice. |
Compassion & Wisdom The twin pillars of Zen are Wisdom and Compassion. We can do anything in a Zen state of mind and we can meditate or have a Zen state of mind doing anything. It is a misconception that the only way to meditate is sitting down. It is possible to meditate sitting on the floor or walking down the street. A truly meditative state is not a trance. It is simply the lack of any conceptualization and being fully present and viscerally engaged in the moment. Many people will have experienced 'being in the zone' at different times of their lives or even different times of the day. Most of us will have experienced flashes of deep connectivity during our lives, with a loved-one, a spouse or holding a newborn baby in our arms. This state of deep-presence is the entrance into Zen. The teachable skill of being able to access increasing mental-clarity and mental-freshness, to be able to de-stress and hence problem-solve hyper-efficiently, organize and analyze data swiftly and to have a one-pointed focused mind makes everything better, not just our business. The Zen Master A Zen state of mind isn’t simply ‘taught.’ Best 'transmitted' directly from a master by means of the introspective technology of guided, then independently performed mind-training exercises (along with breathing-techniques synchronized with very gentle body-movement), Shaolin Zen can be applied simply and effectively for success in business and in life regardless of religion, culture or gender. Zen is a body of teaching which points directly at the vast potential of the human mind. These methods of pointing at the true nature of the mind have become refined by generations of masters. As every individual is unique, a genuine Zen Master will vary his teachings depending on the individual proclivities, erudition and level of his student. |
Non-ReligiousZen is a body of non-religious teachings which has coalesced over the course of some fifteen hundred years and have been refined by generations of masters always with the goal of revealing the fullest potential of the human mind. Socrates said ‘Nosce te ipsum,’- Know Thyself. The great Chinese Scholar-Warrior Sun Tzu elaborates, ‘Know thyself, know thine enemy. A thousand battles, a thousand victories.’
The space Zen occupies, is the point where all religions and spiritual systems overlap in the mind of every human being regardless of background. The mind-training techniques for accessing this space are not culturally or religiously bound and can be applied by anybody with the right instruction. Be it in business or any sphere, mental-clarity, peak-performance and self-knowledge are imperative to success. Zen is the place where all religions and spiritual paths overlap in the heart and mind of all human-beings. Once accessed, Zen is a state of living, free of preconceptions, prejudices, biases or other views inherited from our culture or education. That doesn't mean that we forsake our identity. It is living directly with this reality here and now. It is being very present. One can practice 'not-knowing' or practice constantly dropping discriminating thoughts in order to relate directly to this present reality or one can connect deeply with this body through the practice of Shaolin Chi Kung in order to be deeply rooted in the present. It is our firmest conviction that given the truly unbelievable benefits to be gained on Master Wong's courses, the Shaolin Arts are the most cost-effective in terms of time and money invested to achieve the above benefits. |
